Thella's siphoning principle
Flushing large amounts of water can create under-pressure in the drainage system. This under-pressure can lead to drainage of the water reservoirs in shower gullies and waste traps. This drainage cause the water seal to break and the outside air is directly connected to the drain air, resulting in a nasty smell. Another cause of stench is the evaporation of the water reservoirs in shower gullies and waste traps. The evaporation results in broken water seals, leading again to the nasty smell.
The Thella siphoning principle is an ingeniously and simple solution to both problems. It solves the source of the problems instead of minimising or mitigating the consequences of the mentioned problems. The solution is highly reliable and can be produced cheaply. The principle is implemented in the main siphons in a home; the floor gully and the waste trap. |
